Paediatric First Aid (EYFS/OFSTED) - Course Overview

This Paediatric First Aid certificate is designed for individuals working in childcare or early years settings. The training meets the paediatric first aid requirements set out in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is recognised for Ofsted-regulated environments.

The qualification helps learners develop the knowledge and skills needed to respond to a wide range of paediatric first aid situations, including illnesses, injuries, and emergency incidents involving babies and young children.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is suitable for anyone responsible for the care of babies and young children in a professional setting. It is particularly relevant for nursery staff, childminders, preschool workers, teaching assistants, and other early years practitioners who need to meet EYFS first aid requirements.

It can also be for individuals beginning a role in childcare or education who need to gain the full Paediatric First Aid qualification in order to be included in staff-to-child ratios within Ofsted-registered settings.

Paediatric First Aid Course Structure:

The Paediatric First Aid course is a two-unit award, consisting of:

Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid

Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury

This course is typically delivered over two days of face-to-face training. However, a blended learning option is also available for those who prefer a more flexible approach.

The Blended Paediatric First Aid course allows learners to achieve the full qualification by completing an online eLearning module before attending one day of face-to-face training, instead of the standard two days in the classroom.

The eLearning can be completed at your own pace and may be split across multiple sittings. It is designed to take approximately six hours, although this may vary depending on prior knowledge and confidence using online learning systems. Further information on this can be found on the Blended Paediatric First Aid page.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Dan Pedley. We are all in agreement that Dan Pedley's excellent training & fantastic lessons will not be forgotten. In fact, we are all in agreement that we did not want it to end. We have all learned more today than what has ever been taught before on previous first aid courses. So, thank you First Response First Aid, but more importantly thank you Dan Pedley for your supreme, first class training. Keep up the awesome work! August 2018

I was on that course today, led by Bryan and Rob, and I just wanted to pass on how excellent it was. I practise a holistic therapy called "Bowen" and must hold at the very least the Emergency First Aid certificate in order to maintain my membership with the FHT. I did the initial training 3 years ago, and so had to re-train this year. Both trainings were with First Response First Aid, but I must say that I found today's training really very good. Brian and Rob offer 2 different styles of teaching, but they complement each other very well. Brian's understated but very witty way grabbed my attention for most of the day, and left me with no doubt that I had a very knowledgeable person in front of me. If Rob initially came across as a not so confident speaker, he immediately perked up as soon as it was down to practicing some skills, and his enthusiasm was very communicative. He also knows how to correct people's inaccuracy in their gestures in such a way that doesn't make them feel self-conscious, but rather encourage them to do better. The fact that he is a firefighter undoubtedly adds some perspective to his input. So I guess all I'm saying is thank you for providing such a quality training. I went home feeling rather confident with the thought of having to use those refreshed and updated skills; though I still hope not to have to use them.

I consider that the First Response (First Aid) trainer, both as a personality, together with his presentation style, as like a breath of fresh air to the first aid teaching industry.
