First Aid for Youth Mental Health (RQF Level 2 Award) Course Summary

The FAA Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health qualification is suitable for anyone who actively connects with children, such as parents, carers, teachers, youth group leaders and young adults.

The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.

Successful learners can act as a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ in any environment in which they may deal with young people.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but they will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they
can go to get help.

Learners wishing to become a ‘First Aider for Mental Health for adults may wish to undertake the ‘FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health’ or the ‘FAA Award in Supervising/Leading First Aid for Mental Health’.

Please can you pass on some feedback from today's trainers? Vic & Laura.. we had them do basic life support at Box Tree… what a team they are. They were spot on, really simple, informative training. We had a good laugh, and some really good techniques were shown. They were very professional and helped those who needed it. Many thanks, Steph

The course was very good – the course presenter (Dave) was easily the best I've encountered – really outstanding, great balance of humour and fact and anecdotes. All participants seemed very engaged throughout, so he worked his audience well.

I completed a paediatric first aid course with Tom MacArthur a few weeks ago. Today my daughter was showing signs of meningitis with an extremely high temperature. I would like you to pass on my thanks to Tom for teaching me as well as he did because his voice was ringing in my ears telling what I should do, I remained calm and felt confident that I was able to manage the situation until the emergency services arrived. I have had first aid training in the past but none have been as effective, Tom is a real credit to your company. Please pass on my thanks to him, his training was invaluable to me today.

I just wanted to pass on how much all the staff who attended enjoyed the excellent Defib training yesterday with Rod. We all found it interesting, informative and extremely well taught. Thanks to Rod, we all feel very confident that we would be able to deal with an emergency situation that required either CPR or use of a Defib. Many thanks
