Combined Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work Blended - Course Overview
The blended Combined Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work course allows learners to achieve the full Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work qualifications, by completing an interactive eLearning module followed by a 1-day face-to-face practical training session.
Who Is This Course For?
This combined course is ideal for individuals who work in childcare or early years settings and also require recognised workplace first aider certification. It is particularly suited to nursery staff, childminders, teaching assistants, and school support staff, as well as anyone responsible for first aid provision in a workplace environment.
Completing both qualifications together helps learners develop the confidence to respond to emergencies involving infants, children, and adults. It also provides a convenient training route for those working across childcare, education, and workplace environments.
Course Structure & What to Expect:
The Combined Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work course is delivered through a blended learning approach, completed in two simple steps. Both stages must be completed in the order outlined below.
Step 1: Interactive eLearning (Approx. 7 Hours)
Before attending the practical session, learners must complete an interactive online eLearning course.
- eLearning access details are typically sent around 14 days before the face-to-face training
- Access can be provided earlier on request
- We recommend completing the eLearning within 14 days prior to the practical session
- The course can be completed at your own pace, in one or multiple sittings, progress is automatically saved
- The eLearning is designed to take approximately 7 hours, although this may vary depending on IT confidence and previous knowledge of first aid
Step 2: Face-to-Face Practical Training (1 Day)
The second step is a 1-day face-to-face training session. During this session, learners will:
- Learn and practise essential first aid techniques
- Demonstrate competence in all required practical elements
- Be formally assessed by a qualified instructor
This practical day is designed to build confidence and ensure learners can apply their knowledge safely and effectively in real-life situations.
Paediatric First Aid (primarily for working with young children):
- Managing an incident/ Illness assessment
- Resuscitation (baby, child & adult)/Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator
- Wounds / bleeding / bandaging/Shock
- Choking/Foreign objects nose/ear/ Eye Injuries
- Burns & Scalds / Electric Shock
- Poisoning / Bites & Stings/Anaphylaxis (including safe use of Adrenaline Auto-Injectors)
- Fractures / Dislocations/Head / Neck / Back Injuries
- Asthma/Diabetes
- Seizures/Febrile convulsions
- Fever / Meningitis / Vomiting
- Fainting/Aches & Pains
- Unconsciousness/Recovery Positions (baby, child & adult)
- Effects of Heat & Cold
- First Aid Kits/Accident / Incident Reporting
Emergency First Aid at Work (primarily for working with adults):
- Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Cross infection
- Recording incidents & actions
- Use of available equipment
- Assessing an incident
- Unconscious casualties (including seizure)
- Cardio pulmonary resuscitation
- Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator
- Choking
- Wounds and bleeding
- Shock
- Minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded both the Paediatric First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work certificates, each valid for three years.
These qualifications confirm that learners are competent to provide first aid to both children and adults, supporting compliance with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and EYFS / Ofsted first aid requirements.
This course is accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) in accordance with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
FAIB accreditation ensures the blended learning structure, course content, assessment methods, and trainer competence meet recognised national standards for workplace and paediatric first aid training.

- Duration: 14 hours (7 hours eLearning & 1 day face to face)
- Group Size: Up to 12 Candidates per 1 Trainer/Assessor
- Assessment Method: Activities, multiple-choice tests, practical assessments
- Pre-requisite: To attend the face-to-face session learners must have fully completed the online eLearning course
