First Aid Annual Refresher - Course Overview

This annual refresher course is strongly recommended by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to help reduce skill fade in individuals who have previously completed either the First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work courses.

The refresher provides an opportunity to revisit essential first aid skills, update knowledge in line with current guidance, and rebuild confidence in responding to workplace emergencies. It helps ensure first aiders remain competent, prepared, and able to act quickly and effectively should an incident occur.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is suitable for individuals who currently hold a valid First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work qualification and want to refresh their skills and knowledge. It is ideal for workplace first aiders looking to stay up to date with current guidance, and reduce skill fade between requalification periods.

The annual refresher is particularly beneficial for those who may not use their first aid skills regularly but are required to remain prepared to respond effectively to workplace emergencies.

In Accordance With Appendix 7 H&S (First Aid) Regulations 1981

  • Dealing with the unconscious casualty
  • Recovery positions
  • Choking
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator

  • Wounds / Bleeding

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded the FRFA Annual Refresher First Aid certificate, which is valid for one year.

This certificate confirms that essential first aid knowledge and skills have been refreshed and helps ensure first aid provision remains up to date with current guidance and workplace requirements.

This course is fully accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) and is delivered in accordance with Appendix 7 of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

FAIB accreditation confirms that the course content, delivery, and assessment meet recognised national standards for annual first aid refresher training. It provides employers with assurance that their first aiders are receiving high-quality, compliant training that supports ongoing workplace health and safety responsibilities.

I just wanted to pass on how much all the staff who attended enjoyed the excellent Defib training yesterday with Rod. We all found it interesting, informative and extremely well taught. Thanks to Rod, we all feel very confident that we would be able to deal with an emergency situation that required either CPR or use of a Defib. Many thanks

Trainer made the subjects easy to follow and explained things very well. Brian made everyone feel at ease so doing the practicals was more relaxed and easy to follow. I felt the assessments throughout were thorough but not intimidating.

May I express my sincere thanks in the course taken this week which I earlier today obtained my FAW. From the initial contact with yourselves the service provided was very prompt, efficient and professional without any faults, issues or hiccups which seems to be the norm these days. On to the actual course. The tutors (Brian & Mick Dennant) delivering the training was 1st class in that not only did they keep the flow going but interesting and to the point without any lethargic or boredom points that can arise in some training. They are not only a credit to First Response but also contenders for the stage should they wish a change in career direction as the humour was uplifting and consistent.

I would just like to say I found the course well structured, and very informative with special emphasis on excellent presentation. The instructor Mr Brian Dennant was obviously very knowledgeable and experienced, he possessed excellent communicating skills and made the group and myself feel at ease from the outset. It was excellent; we all enjoyed the two days thoroughly. Thank you so much! Fantastic instructor, made me feel a lot more confident.
